Your Phone data is no longer PRIVATE now. Was it before ?

It’s official now from Facebook, that they are collecting phone call records from your phone (if you are on Android). Here is the link. https://newsroom.fb.com/news/2018/03/fact-check-your-call-and-sms-history/

Oh and Iphone users are not effected by this new.

So if you are using android phone, and have used Facebook app (chances are that you have), there are chances, that the data being shared by your cellular company, would be shared by Facebook. Who is the mostly called number, who is the longest called number, so on and so forth.

The best bet to find out is to login to your Facebook, and grab your Data.

  1. Goto Settings followed by download your data.
  2. Enter your password and request all your data.
  3. Facebook will email you once your data is ready.
  4. Download that data and then inspect it using Zip / text files

So what’s there to worry, if my data is exposed ?

Technically, nothing. There is nothing you can do. In fact it will be used against you to advertise products to you. No matter it’s Facebook, Google, Twitter, any other social network. They are all in for the long haul. Anything provided to you for free, there is reason it is provided for free, since you are their Product. Your movement, your data is their product, and they might be selling something else to you in turn. So why worry.

Following are some of the links, which will show that Google is tracking you too.

Below are some interesting tweets from this Facebook data exposure thread.

So in the end, why worry. Keep calm and let the facebook track you.

Still reading and thinking what the hell. This guy doesn’t have any thing to worry. Well, if you are so concerned about your privacy, there are two things you can do.

  1. Un-install Facebook app from your phone and start using facebook from your browser. Facebook from browser is quite lite on phone and it will be lighter, which will provide performance boost to your phone
  2. Keep using Facebook app and visit privacy control settings in app and check out the new options facebook is providing after this news.

As always, happy facebooking. In fact, this news will also be published over facebook.

Which Search Engine do you use?

Yesterday, I was searching for some stuff on my research on Home Schooling, and then I was doing the same thing. Opening new tabs, one for Google, one for Bing, one for Yahoo and one for Clusty. Did my searching from all those four tabs, I was in turn opening more tabs. So actually just to perform a quick search, I opening 4 x 2 = 8 tabs. Although with more computing power, it is nothing, but I realized that I was not searching in an effective manner.

It was then, that I suddenly realized that I had an amazing tool at my arsenal, which is Power Seek. A search tool I developed to make my research more easier. It allows me to open up the search results in one window, and perform my search, all while the Search is being displayed right in front of me, and I just switch the Search engine with a click of Combo box / Drop list. Once I change my search engine, the new Search results are displayed in the same smaller window.

Any time, I want the results to be bookmarked, I can just open the Search in new tab, by marking a check on the check box say, OPEN IN NEW TAB. Easy as pie, isn’t it? Oh by the way, for my small number of readers, the Search engine resides at

http://bit.ly/PowerSeek

and its user manual is residing at

http://powerseek.wordpress.com

So my few readers,

which search engine do you use and why?

The Social Network :: Movie Review.

This movie is the complete history of Facebook, when it was being developed in the dorm rooms of Harvard, KirkLand house. A nice history of how things evolved when Facebook was not in the scene.

What I loved about this movie, is that all the Open source tools are displayed in it. Movie directors are having an IT geek with them these days. The guy is shown blogging on Live Journal on a net book, and that too, using HTML editor not the rich text editor. The guy is also shown as using Linux Terminal having all the expertise of making and developing a PHP / Apache powered website. Thank god, they didn’t show Microsoft Visual Studio with a Facebook page being developed. You may see and read the complete history of Facebook here.

Last but not the least, I loved the ending part, of how the whole Facebook fiasco was ended.

Nonetheless, the movie ends, when the Facebook Lead developer is left staring at profile of a young lady lawyer, who tells him, he is just trying to be jerk.

I mean come on, he is the lead developer of Facebook. He could have be-freinded her. Why was he just staring at her profile?

All in all, if you are geek, and love Web applications, you would like The Social Network.

If you are just a casual user of Facebook, this might be a bit disappointment.

I present you the trailer of Social Network.

My Facebook Account is disabled.

I really can’t feel like enough to blog about, but it’s sad to say that my facebook account is disabled. Now this is a big eff (font size 24, weight bold, underline, and italics) thing to do on part of facebook. Facebook, you are simply out of my list of favorite web-sites.

One fine day, I decided to change the representation of name to “Salman Khwaja سلما ن”. That was all. The next thing, I knew was they didn’t allow to log me in. They said they have found me violating some of their terms and conditions. The details, are off course, kept confidential.

I mean, all I was trying to do is change the representation of my name, and one fine day you (EFF FB) disable my account. I wasn’t doing any spam related activities, any illegal activities, then on what grounds did you disabled my account? I have lost much of a content that I have on Facebook. I have lost all my contents, pictures uploaded, and all the links. I don’t care much about those applications, but I really do not have any other means of getting those back.

I tried emailing them also, but all I received is their automated reply that they have received my application. After a while, I emailed the reminder, the email BOUNCED back at me, saying that the email does not exist. Facebook, a multi million dollar company, is not having that email address with which I was corresponding. There is a limit to professionalism. Anyway, it appears to me that I have no other option to come back to the network with zero activity.

Let me ponder on the benefits and side effects of losing my account and opening a new one.

Benefits

  • Clean Profile :: A new re-vamped account will be made, with all new contacts. Quite tedious process and timestakingly work, but it will be clean profile. How clean I can keep it up, is up to me…. gosh, I wonder this time, I should think ten times before adding an app.

Side Effects

  • Lost of valuable information like my photos. Photos uploaded by my friends can be retrieved, if they have uploaded and if and only if (sickening) facebook gives me access to re-tag myself.
  • A big time taken activity of adding all my friends, ranging from metric – > inter – > Graduation > work. Man that is long journey.

Waise, by the way, why am I going through such activity. Don’t you have any else to do? Well, one big reason is that man is a social animal and I need to be in touch with my network. Facebook, you have changed the way we communicate. You have changed the communication from boring emails awesome chats, application and all that. Still deep down, you have left a scar on one of your user.

Sorry facebook, your terms and conditions are pathetic.
